The Springfield business community may know Doug Pitt, but most are more likely to have heard of his Hollywood actor brother, Brad.
Enter Virgin Mobile Australia, which has enlisted Springfield’s Mr. Pitt in its “Fair Go Bro” campaign.
In a YouTube ad, “Meet Doug Pitt, the second most famous Pitt in his family,” Pitt takes us on a comical view of his unassuming day-to-day life. It is quite hilarious and seemingly serves to contrast his brother’s famous lifestyle.
“This baby right here. It scans. It prints. It faxes. 1,200 DPI, black and white – I’m gonna upgrade to the color, but for right now, this baby gets it done,” Pitt says of his printer. He then works on a birdhouse and mows his lawn.
It’s the right amount of sarcasm, and the clear juxtaposition serves to produce some laughs.
“While his brother lives the life of a Hollywood A-lister, Doug’s life is a little different. Virgin Mobile believe in a fair go for all, and want to give Doug a taste of his brother’s lifestyle, starting with his first ever celebrity endorsement,” the video states.
The video, posted last week, has gone viral, and Pitt has found his way onto the Yahoo homepage and a number of other Web sites.
I spent the day with Doug Pitt last summer as part of Springfield Business Journal’s Day in the Life series, which followed local businessmen and businesswomen through a typical day on the job.
Pitt, co-owner of ServiceWorld Computer Center in Springfield and co-founder of 
nonprofit Care to Learn – which helps fill requests for food and health and hygiene products for needy school-age children in the Ozarks – also helps to build water wells in Tanzania through his work with WorldServe International. He’s clear, he’s to the point and he’s always on the go. Would I have expected him to star in this ad? Not really. But, like he said about his printer, he gets the job done.
Pitt family members are known for their work in philanthropy. It’s nice to see Doug getting some attention. So, as the ad says, help show Doug some ‘like.’
I remember walking in my communications class at MSU and this long haired guy was put in my group! I gasped! Then I got to know him and he was in a Christian rock band and was quite funny! Doug Pitt is great! Can’t wait to watch!:)
