Remember the Local Races

Jeremy Elwood, SBJ ReporterWith the coverage that SBJ and other media outlets have given to the presidential and gubernatorial campaigns, as well as Missouri ballot propositions A, B and C and the nonpartisan court plan, some of the local races may have been overlooked.

For those of you looking for more information about some of those local races, Urban Neighborhoods Alliance is trying to help.

UNA, along with the League of Women Voters and the St. Joseph Neighborhood Betterment Group, is hosting a candidate forum this Wednesday at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph Elementary School, 515 W. Scott St.

The forum, according to a UNA news release, will feature information on the races for the Greene County sheriff’s position being vacated by the retiring Jack Merritt; the county administrator’s seat held by Carolyn Little, who’s not running; and the District I commissioner seat currently held by Harold Bengsch, who’s running for re-election; and representative for the 137th district in the Missouri House of Representatives currently represented by Democrat Charlie Norr. Norr is running again.

Candidates for each of those races will get five minutes to outline their platform; attendees will also be able to submit written questions.

For more information, call UNA at (417) 865-4774.
