Yakov Jumps from Stage to Screen

Matt Wagner, SBJ ReporterBranson comedian Yakov Smirnoff – the fifth and final executive featured in Springfield Business Journal’s Day in the Life series – has high hopes for his TV talk show pilot, which airs at 9 p.m. Saturday on KY3.

I recently spent a day shadowing Yakov, who taped the show at his Branson theater in early October and has been tirelessly working on the final cut. Yakov gave photographer Aaron Scott and me a sneak peek at a segment of the show during which he interviews a California couple married for more than 75 years. It’s a hoot, and Yakov seems like a natural as a TV talk show host – a career-expanding move he’s been mulling for years.

If you miss Yakov’s Saturday night premiere because you’re watching the Arkansas Razorbacks hammer the Missouri State Bears at JQH Arena (Go HOGS!!), you can always catch the 1 p.m. replay Sunday. Yakov also has invited viewers to share their comments about the show at www.loveandlaughter.com. If you’re interested in learning more about Yakov’s workday rituals and backstage routine, check out my profile in the Dec. 1 issue of SBJ.
