Airport open house date set

Jeremy Elwood, SBJ ReporterSpringfield-Branson National Airport has set the date when it will show the world that its new terminal is ready for takeoff.

Sorry. I can’t resist a pun opportunity.

Airport spokesman Kent Boyd announced on his blog this morning that April 25 is the date of the public open house for the Midfield Terminal.

The $119 million terminal is set to open for business May 6, the airport announced in January, but visitors will have a chance to check out the new digs, which will include room for overnight jetliner parking, increased passenger capacity and post-9/11 security requirements, before the first flights begin.

The opening date will be almost exactly three years after the day when city and airport officials gathered to break ground on the 285,000-square-foot terminal project in May 2006.
