Ozarks Extreme Makeover Day 7: The Finishing Touches

Jeremy Elwood, SBJ ReporterThe Ash Grove build site of ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” has taken on an almost rock concert atmosphere.

Most of the work on the new home for Chris and Niki Hampton and their six children is complete – and just in time, because the family returns tomorrow from their weeklong vacation at Walt Disney World in Florida.

The team of builders, led by Sam and Michelle Clifton of Millstone Custom Homes, is preparing to hand over the keys to the house, signaling the end of construction and the beginning of the final decorating.

And all over the site, there’s a palpable feeling of excitement. Dozens of spectators have set up camp. Some are preparing to watch as ABC “moves the bus,” and others are waiting to see Ashley Tisdale, star of the “High School Musical” films, perform a free concert Tuesday. When Tisdale made a brief appearance in the front yard preparing to shoot a segment for the show, a chorus of screams of “We love you Ashley!” arose from the spectator area.

But the stars of the show, even in their absence, are the Hamptons. Everyone from volunteers to producers to builders has said repeatedly throughout the week that the sweat and sore muscles are worth it if it means they had a hand in helping such a deserving family.

And build organizers are still working to collect the last few thousand dollars to help pay off the mortgage on the family’s old home; anyone interested in helping is encouraged to visit millstoneextremedream.com to learn more.

It’s been an incredible process watching a home grow literally from nothing in less than a week. Check back here for pictures and video from throughout the week.
