A Day in the Life in Video

Eric Olson, SBJ EditorThe concept of the Day in the Life series is to take readers behind the scenes. This year, Springfield Business Journal photographer Wes Hamilton added another dimension to the coverage.

A series of video snippets chronicles the days SBJ writers spent with handpicked professionals: Shawn Askinosie, Mike Stevens, Michael Stelzer and Karen Best.

As you playback the videos, you’ll see and hear aspects of their days the writers couldn’t capture on their own.

Here are my top moments with each businessperson experienced through Hamilton’s lens:

Did you hear that:

“What I really liked is that it didn’t taste like 2013,” the chocolatier says during a taste-test session.

Askinosie is noticing a distinct improvement in his product’s quality.

The sights and sounds of Stelzer hammering the anvil for metalwork to go in the much-anticipated downtown Hotel Vandivort. Sweat. For the love of the art.

Behind the scenes, literally, in the projector room, hearing Stevens run through the movie playback scenario:

“You take the lights down. Trailer. Trailer. Trailer. Underwriter. Bumper. And then the lights go all the way down for the feature.”

Has a celebrity picture board from her days working at MGM Studios. The Golden Globes was her baby. And then there’s the “bat phone” for city business:

“Even if I’m here, my bat phone is always on, always checking it.”

What are your favorite moments captured?
